JAKARTA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian young lifters are eyeing medals at the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships, which will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 4 to 10, according to the All Indonesia Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) on Tuesday.

Indonesia has sent six promising athletes to compete in the prestigious international event, the association's secretary general, Djoko Pramono, confirmed.

"One of our lifters, Alyamaulida Kartika Pertiwi, previously won three bronze medals at the 2025 World Youth and Junior Championships in Peru. We hope she can reach the podium again this time at the Asian level," Pramono told reporters.

He emphasized that participation in such competitions is not only about winning medals but also part of a long-term athlete development strategy to prepare young talents for the senior level. ■
