GAZA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- A suspension of dialysis services at al-Shifa medical complex in Gaza City is threatening the lives of about 350 patients, said the health authorities in the coastal enclave on Tuesday.
The health authorities said in a press statement that the al-Shifa complex has suspended dialysis services due to fuel shortages, while limiting intensive care services to a few hours.
The authorities added that the continued lack of fuel means certain death for all patients and the wounded in hospitals, noting that the health sector in Gaza is suffering from a stifling and ongoing fuel shortage due to the Israeli "policy of rationing fuel supplies to hospitals."
It called on international institutions and relevant parties to intervene and protect the health system from collapse by working to provide medical supplies.
Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of the al-Shifa medical complex, also confirmed that the lives of 350 patients were in danger because of fuel shortages.
Abu Salmiya warned in a press statement that the generators would stop working on Tuesday, and hundreds of patients would face death.
Abu Salmiya warned that the health and humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip have reached catastrophic levels with the continued prevention of the entry of emergency medical supplies. ■
