BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.02 percent to 3,727.29 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent lower at 11,821.63 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices reached almost 2.59 trillion yuan (about 362.95 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.76 trillion yuan registered on the previous trading day.

Shares related to robots, diesel generators and liquor led the gains, while stocks related to insurance, PEEK plastics and the defense industry were among the biggest decliners.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.17 percent to close at 2,601.74 points on Tuesday. ■
