HANOI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 2,700 passengers were affected as the Vietnam Railways Corporation suspended several North-South trains on Monday evening due to flooding in central Vietnam, the local media VnExpress reported.
The railway operator announced the suspension of trains on routes between the capital Hanoi and the southern economic hub Ho Chi Minh City, along with services between Hanoi and the central Da Nang city on the day, according to the report.
Floodwaters along sections of the North-South line continued to rise, with levels in central Vietnam's Hue city reported at 70 to 185 millimeters above the rail surface.
Over the past four days, the central localities of Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai have recorded 400-600 millimeters of rainfall due to the combined effects of a cold front, a tropical convergence zone, and easterly winds. ■
